General
General
- Players must abide by Squash SA, Centurion Junior Squash, Irene, and Uitsig Squash Club rules.
- All cell phones are banned while marking unless the referee is using the phone for timekeeping only.
- In all circumstances, the Tournament Referee’s decision is final.
- The Dunlop Pro XX will be the official match squash ball for u11, u13. HA Ball for u14 ,u16 and u19. Groups of different age groups will play with Dunlop Pro XX. Beginner players – single yellow dot, at the discretion of the tournament organizers.
- PROTECTIVE EYEWEAR IS COMPULSORY! This includes during the warm-up.
- This is a fun tournament but Head to Head results in same age groups will count.
- Spectators will be allowed according to the capacity of a specific venue.
- Players must wear clothing suitable for squash per SA Schools’ Squash, Squash SA and WSF regulations.
- The Dunlop CJS Open Tournament will publish draws, results and photos of players. As this is a part of the Dunlop CJS Open tournament rules, the organisers will deem that players and their parents have accepted these regulations by entering the tournament.
- Players are not permitted to drink any alcoholic beverages or smoke, if this rule is ignored, the player will face immediate expulsion from the tournament, and will also face further disciplinary action.
Arrival Time
- Players must be at the venue at least 30 minutes before the scheduled playing time, and be warmed up and ready to play at the scheduled time.
- Players must be ready to play once the match prior has finished.
- Players who are 15 minutes late after their scheduled start time will forfeit the match. Unfortunately due to the tournament size and format, no rescheduling will be allowed.
Scoring, marking, and refereeing
- Scoring will be best of 5 games ”point-a-rally” up to 15 points (Age Group U11-U13) and 11 points (Age Group U14 –U19) or according to strength (where strength indication has been provided and is available).
- Players playing the 3rd match of the day MUST mark and referee the first match of the day.
- Players must mark and referee the match following their match unless otherwise indicated by the Tournament Committee. Winners referee, losers mark.
Quick Reference Guide
The player hits the opponent with the ball (on the racket, clothing or the body)
(Rule 9.1)
If the player didn’t turn before hitting the ball:
- If the ball was going directly to the front wall and it was the Player’s first attempt to hit the ball, the Player (striker) wins the point.
- If the ball hit or would have hit any other wall (including the back wall) before it hit the front wall = LET. But if the shot would have been a winning shot, then the Player (striker) wins the point.
- If it was the Player’s 2nd attempt to hit the ball = LET
- If the ball was going to be down or out, then the Opponent wins the point.
If the player turned before hitting the ball:
- The point is given to the Opponent,
- UNLESS the Opponent deliberately moved in the way, then the point is given to the Player.
Illness
- 🥴 Cramp, nausea, breathlessness, asthma: No recovery time. Forfeit the game, use 90-second break.
- 🤢 Vomit on court: forfeit the match.
Injury – Self-Inflicted
🤕 Due to own action, such as a muscle sprain or tear, bruise from collision with a wall or falling over: 3 minutes

Injury – Contributed (due to action by both players)

Injury – Opponent-Inflicted (Accidental)

Injury – Opponent-Inflicted (Deliberate or Dangerous Play)
🤕 Player deliberately hits the opponent with a ball or racket and the opponent is injured, or through dangerous play:
- If the opponent can continue without delay, Rule 15 (Conduct) must be applied.
- if the opponent requires any recovery time, the match is awarded to the injured player.
